Card Header and Footer

NextSteps, a powerful digital tool developed by the Jesus Film Project, offers extensive customization options to enhance the look and feel of your digital journey. This guide will walk you through the process of customizing the card header and footer, as well as other appearance settings to create a more engaging and personalized experience for your users.

Accessing Journey Appearance Settings

  1. Open your NextSteps journey in the builder interface.
  2. Click at the bottom of any regular card to open the "Journey Appearance" menu.

Choosing Between Journey and Website Mode

At the top of the Journey Appearance menu, you'll find two mode options:

  1. Journey Mode: Focuses on customizing the footer of your NextSteps journey.
  2. Website Mode: Allows customization of both header and footer, similar to a micro-website builder.

Customizing in Journey Mode

Footer Customization

  1. Like, Dislike, and Share Icons:
    • Add or remove these icons to encourage user interaction and sharing.
  2. Journey Title:
    • Add a title that will be permanently displayed on all cards for consistency.
  3. Journey Host:
    • Option to add a host name and associated logo or icon.
  4. Chat Widget:
    • Add a chat widget that redirects users to platforms like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.
    • Alternatively, use a custom chat icon as a permanent button for additional calls to action.

Example Setup

For our demonstration:

  1. Select "Journey" mode.
  2. Add the Jesus Film logo.
  3. Set "Jesus Film" as the title.
  4. Add a link to the Jesus Film home page as the footer button.

Customizing in Website Mode

Website mode offers more comprehensive customization options:

Header Customization

  • Add a logo
  • Display a title
  • Include a menu icon

Menu Creation

When a menu is used:

  1. It appears as a standalone card in the journey builder.
  2. Edit this card to include all necessary menu items and links.

Standard Journey View Elements

In the default view, users will see:

  • Share button
  • Like button
  • Dislike button
  • Information "i" icon (displays journey information)

Removing the Information Icon

Some ministry partners have requested the ability to remove the information icon. While this isn't an option within NextSteps itself, you can remove it by modifying the URL:

  1. Take your NextSteps journey URL.
  2. Add "?noi" at the end of the URL.

Example:

  • With info icon: https://nextstep.is/yourjourney
  • Without info icon: https://nextstep.is/yourjourney?noi

Best Practices for Customization

  1. Consistency: Ensure your customizations align with your brand and message across all cards.
  2. User Experience: Consider how each element contributes to the user's journey and engagement.
  3. Testing: Always preview your journey after making changes to ensure everything looks and functions as intended.
